TRIATHLON presented at ECM 2025: A look back
April 10The 12th European Combustion Meeting (ECM 2025) took place from April 7th to 10th in Edinburgh, UK, and TRIATHLON presented there. This prestigious event brought together experts and researchers to discuss the latest developments in combustion science.
During the meeting, TRIATHLON was represented by:
- Vittorio De Lauso and Ivan Langella from Delft University of Technology
They presented their research in Session 2: Low Emission Combustion Technologies. Their poster, titled “Flame Control by Low-Temperature Hydrogen Injection in a Trapped Vortex Combustor”, showcased key findings from the project.
The presentation highlighted their work on the behaviour of rich premixed hydrogen flames at cryogenic temperatures (~150 K). These flames demonstrated the ability to sustain combustion even in extreme cold, utilising hydrogen’s thermal sink properties in the rich premixed section of a Trapped Vortex Combustor (TVC) operated in RQL (Rich-Quench-Lean) mode.
This research aligns with the TRIATHLON project’s goal:
Advancing hydrogen powertrain technology and supporting the transition to more sustainable energy systems.
The event offered a great opportunity to engage with leading experts, exchange ideas, and gain new insights that will continue to drive the progress of clean and efficient combustion technologies.
