New Episode of the In Her Shoes Podcast With Susana Isabel Pinheiro Cardoso de Freitas

November 27

In this episode of the In Her Shoes podcast, you will meet Susana Isabel Pinheiro Cardoso de Freitas. She is one of the leading voices in nanoelectronics and magnetic sensors. Moreover, she has been recognised among the 100 Women in Science and is a Corresponding Member of the Lisbon Academy of Sciences.

Susana grew up in a home where curiosity had no gender. She learned car mechanics, woodcraft, physics, and traditional skills side by side. This open upbringing shaped her path into engineering. As a result, she believes that people should choose careers based on joy, not expectation.

A mother of five children (and a dog!), Susana reflects on balancing family with a demanding scientific career. She explains why she never sought leadership but grew into it. Today, she works to keep her team inspired and supported, including through major initiatives like the MultispiAI project.

Tune in to hear Susana’s perspective on several important topics.

  • First, gender dynamics in high-tech fields and how they shape careers.
  • Next, leadership that is driven by purpose rather than power.
  • In addition, the importance of contributing actively to your environment.
  • Finally, finding a path that truly fits who you are.
