DIREQT is building Europe’s diamond quantum pilot line, accelerating the transition of diamond-based quantum technologies from laboratory research to scalable industrial production. Artificially engineered single-crystal diamonds containing precisely controlled quantum defects are emerging as one of the most promising platforms for quantum computing, quantum communication and quantum sensing thanks to their room-temperature operation, long coherence times and exceptional sensing capabilities. The project will develop advanced Quantum Process Design Kits (QPDKs) and manufacturing processes to enable reliable, reproducible and scalable production of diamond quantum chips. By strengthening the entire value chain, from quantum-grade diamond materials to integrated devices, DIREQT aims to increase both Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs) and Manufacturing Readiness Levels (MRLs), paving the way for the next generation of quantum devices.

A key objective of DIREQT is the full integration of testing and experimentation facilities within the pilot line environment, allowing researchers, technology developers and industrial users to validate and optimise quantum components under realistic conditions. The project will also foster closer collaboration across the European diamond quantum ecosystem and establish an open-access and sustainable framework supporting future innovation and market deployment.

By bridging the gap between research excellence and industrial manufacturing, DIREQT will contribute to strengthening Europe’s strategic position in quantum technologies. The solutions developed within the project are expected to impact a wide range of sectors, including healthcare, telecommunications, automotive, finance and consumer electronics.
