NAP4DIVE Nanoparticle Drug Delivery: Insights from the M18 Meeting

June 23

The NAP4DIVE nanoparticle drug delivery project continues to advance solutions for crossing the blood–brain barrier (BBB), bringing innovative therapies closer to clinical application. At Month 18, the consortium gathered to review progress and define the next steps toward real-world impact.

At AMIRES, we lead project management, communication, dissemination, and exploitation activities—ensuring that scientific progress is closely aligned with stakeholder engagement and uptake strategies.

Advancing NAP4DIVE Nanoparticle Drug Delivery Towards Clinical Impact

One of the key challenges discussed during the meeting is that, although many nanoparticle systems show strong performance in preclinical research, only a few successfully transition into clinical practice.

To bridge this gap, the NAP4DIVE nanoparticle drug delivery approach integrates:

  • Advanced in vitro BBB models
  • AI-driven modelling and simulations
  • Data-driven prediction tools

This helps improve reliability while reducing dependence on animal testing.

Progress in NAP4DIVE Nanoparticle Drug Delivery Platforms

Significant progress has been achieved across:

  • Experimental platforms
  • Nanoparticle screening methods
  • Computational modelling

The consortium agreed on a multi-parameter selection strategy to identify the most promising nanoparticle candidates. Evaluation criteria include:

  • Translational potential
  • Scalability
  • Technical feasibility

Ethics and Stakeholder Engagement in NAP4DIVE

As part of AMIRES-led dissemination and exploitation activities, ethical and societal aspects remain central to NAP4DIVE nanoparticle drug delivery development.

A stakeholder workshop held in Gothenburg (December 2025) highlighted that ethical considerations evolve through continuous dialogue with stakeholders.

This reinforces the importance of:

  • Transparency
  • Trust
  • Continuous stakeholder engagement

Next Steps for NAP4DIVE Nanoparticle Drug Delivery

Looking ahead, the consortium will:

  • Down-select top nanoparticle candidates
  • Validate them using experimental and in vivo approaches

In parallel, AMIRES will continue leading:

  • Dissemination activities
  • Stakeholder engagement
  • Exploitation strategies

ensuring that NAP4DIVE nanoparticle drug delivery results are effectively communicated and positioned for uptake.
