AMIRES at EU PVSEC 2026: Advancing Solar Innovation Through Collaboration

October 2

From 14 to 18 September 2026, AMIRES joined the global photovoltaic community at EU PVSEC 2026 in Rotterdam. Bringing together more than 1,400 experts from 54 countries, the event provided a vibrant platform to explore the latest developments in solar energy, meet collaborators from across Europe, and exchange ideas on the future of photovoltaics.

This year, AMIRES represented three Horizon-funded projects from its portfolio: LUMINOSITY, SHINE PV, and BOOSTER, highlighting how European cooperation is transforming innovative ideas into real-world solar solutions.

AMIRES was present at the conference through our colleagues Anastasia Grozdanova and Bruna Arenhart, who attended on behalf of the company.

What We Learned at EU PVSEC 2026

Across plenary sessions, technical presentations and networking discussions, one message stood out: photovoltaics are entering a new phase of maturity. While remarkable progress continues in both silicon and emerging technologies, the conversation is increasingly shifting from efficiency records to market readiness and large-scale deployment.

Among the key takeaways:

  • Perovskite photovoltaics are moving closer to commercialisation, with increasing focus on industrial-scale manufacturing;
  • Reliability and long-term performance are becoming as important as efficiency, reflecting the sector’s growing maturity;
  • Sustainability and circularity are now central priorities, driving innovation in materials, recycling, and circular value chains;
  • Artificial intelligence is transforming the PV sector, supporting everything from design and forecasting to operation and maintenance.

Facilitating Discussions on Europe’s Solar Future

One of the highlights of the week was the LUMINOSITY and Perovskite Network parallel event, focused on Perovskite PV Commercialisation. While record-breaking efficiencies continue to make headlines, the next challenge is clear: scaling up production, improving stability, embedding sustainability from the outset, and building strong partnerships across the value chain. The conclusion was both simple and inspiring: perovskite PV is moving from the laboratory towards market applications, and collaboration will be the key to getting it there.

Another highlight was the SHINE PV parallel event on Building Competitive European Solar Value Chains. As Europe accelerates its energy transition, participants discussed how to turn scientific excellence into industrial leadership. The conversation reinforced a shared belief: Europe has the knowledge, talent and innovation capacity to lead the global solar sector. Unlocking this potential, however, will require stronger manufacturing ecosystems, strategic investments and closer cooperation between research, industry and policymakers.

More Than a Booth

For the third year in a row, AMIRES was part of the Perovskite Network booth. What started as a place to showcase projects has evolved into a vibrant gathering point for the PV community. Throughout the week, the booth buzzed with conversations, from technical discussions and future research ideas to new partnerships and shared ambitions for the future of solar energy. After all, innovation often begins with a simple conversation between sessions and over a cup of coffee.

As we left Rotterdam, one message resonated louder than ever: Events like EU PVSEC demonstrate that the future of solar energy is built not only on technological breakthroughs, but also on the collaborations that make them possible.
